How to store cat food after opening?

The shelf life of unopened dry cat food is usually 12 to 24 months, but once opened, the shelf life will be significantly shortened. It is recommended to consume regular dry cat food within 1 to 2 months, with a maximum of 3 months; High fat, fresh meat or fish oil cat food should be consumed within one month; It is recommended to consume freeze-dried cat food within 2 weeks after opening; Wet cat food needs to be refrigerated after opening, and should usually be consumed within 24 to 48 hours, with a maximum of 5 to 7 days.

The key to preserving cat food lies in sealing, avoiding light, and moisture. After opening, do not leave the bag open directly. Instead, use a sealing clip to clamp it tightly or pour cat food into a specialized storage bin with a sealing ring. Large packaging cat food can be divided into small sealed bags or vacuum bags according to a consumption amount of 7 to 10 days. After squeezing out the air, it can be tightly tied to reduce the chance of contact with the air. The storage environment should maintain a temperature of 10 ℃ to 25 ℃ and humidity below 60%, and be away from high temperature and high humidity areas such as balconies, kitchens, and pools. Direct sunlight and humid environments can accelerate the oxidation of cat food oils, leading to spoilage.

When making daily purchases and storage, small packaging cat food can be given priority. Single cat families are recommended to purchase a size of 1.5 to 2 kilograms, which can usually be consumed within a month for better freshness assurance. Food grade desiccants can also be placed in storage containers to absorb moisture, but it is important to prevent cats from ingesting them.
