A complete guide to pet travel gear

Today, I'm sharing my years of experience with pets, including a complete list of everything you need to bring. If you're planning a trip with your dog, this guide is the perfect starting point.

Physical Aspects - Essential Equipment: Giving Your Dog a Safe "Mobile World"

Short Trips (1-2 Days): Lightweight but Essential

Teething Frisbee (Green Ring): An essential outdoor toy for your dog. A couple of runs in the mountains or grassy areas, retrieving the frisbee a couple of times, will calm your dog down considerably. Benefits: Exhausts energy, relieves anxiety, and enhances the trip experience.

Windbreaker/Wardrobe (Yellow and Black Stripes): Especially useful when the weather is unpredictable. In windy, tall grass, or sudden cold weather, this will keep your dog warm and protected from the grass. Benefits: Protects against wind, grass, and dirt.

Dog Goggles (Blue Lens): Many people don't realize how useful these are: essential for strong winds, glare from snow, and cycling. Especially important for dogs like yours who like to run around recklessly; eye protection is crucial. Benefits: Protects eyes, protects against glare, and protects against wind and sand.

  1. Leash + Collar (Black Leash & Gray-Red Collar): A leash is always the first line of safety equipment. I usually bring one set for short trips. The leash should be of good quality and the buckle should be secure. Functions: Control, prevents wandering, and prevents dogs from running into people.

  2. Locator (Orange Device): This is a lifesaver if your dog runs off in the wild. The map shows its real-time location, increasing the efficiency of finding a lost dog tenfold. Functions: Prevents wandering and provides quick location tracking.

  3. Folding Silicone Bowl (Green): Lightweight and easy to store, it takes up very little space in a bag. It's essential for drinking and eating. Functions: Convenient for eating and drinking, and doesn't waste space.

  4. Dog Treats (Jerky): Essential for training, comforting, replenishing energy, and rewarding in the car. I usually bring a small bag for short trips, which is just right. Functions: Rewards, comfort, and quick energy replenishment.

  5. Foot towel/small towel (black fabric): Your feet will definitely get dirty after a day of hiking, so you must wipe them before getting into the car. Keeping them clean also keeps the car dry. Functions: Cleans, prevents bacteria, and prevents the car interior from getting dirty.

  6. Grass seed remover (steel needle comb): In the wild, the biggest problem is grass seeds sticking to your leg and belly hair. If not combed out, they can easily become tangled and even prick your skin. This little comb is my lifesaver every time I go out. Functions: Quickly removes grass seeds and prevents skin damage.

  7. Ear bleach (blue bottle) + breath freshener (brown bottle). Dogs are prone to getting dust and water in their ears, especially after long trips. Their mouths can get really smelly (sorry, dogs!), especially after spending a lot of time in enclosed spaces like a car. Keeping their breath fresh is crucial. Purpose: Cleans ears, prevents inflammation.

  8. Wound disinfectant (white/yellow bottle). Immediately treats scratches, cuts from running on grass, or stepping on stones. Purpose: Disinfects, prevents infection.

  9. Emergency kit (black with a cross). Contains gauze, bandages, and styptic flakes. Dogs are most vulnerable to minor injuries when outdoors; this kit can be a lifesaver. Purpose: Emergency treatment of external injuries.

  10. A large bottle of purified water. Don't underestimate its simplicity; running out of water is a major concern when traveling. It's essential for drinking, replenishing fluids, and emergency cleaning. I bring a large bottle because dogs consume more water than you might think, especially in summer when they can easily drink half a bottle. Purpose: For drinking, cleaning, and emergency use.

  11. Insect Repellent Spray (small blue and white bottle): Even after internal and external insect repellent treatment, it's still advisable to repel insects again before really letting your pets run wild! Purpose: To prevent insect bites.
